Arsenal dominant and return to the top of the Premier League. Player ratings, winners and losers.
After a two long week absence from playing Premier League football, Arsenal finally returned to Premier League action with a thoroughly dominant performance against Brentford.
After a scrappy opening start William Saliba nodded Arsenal in front with a superb header. A fantastic team goal which was finished off Gabriel Jesus gave Arsenal a 2-0 lead which how it stayed it was for half time.
Fabio Vieira who was given a huge chance after Martin Odegaard was unavailable due to injury and he took it with a stunning goal to top off a fantastic away win to return Arsenal to the top off the Premier League.
Player Ratings:
Aaron Ramsdale: 7/10
Won't get an easier game this season. Very calm on the ball as usual.
Ben White: 8/10
Once again proving Gareth Southgate wrong. Another superb performance at right back in a venue where he had a horrible time last year.
William Saliba: 9/10
Saliba been carrying a knock for a couple weeks and yet he still puts a performance like that. He is just incredible, took his goal superbly. Completely dominated Ivan Toney.
Very solid game from Gabriel today, made some really nice defence splitting passes in the first half. Never was really challenged at all.
Kieran Tierney 8/10
It looked like KT back to his best today, looked very solid. His performances have been under par this season but today he looked back to his best.
Thomas Partey 8/10
Back from injury today and he made such a big difference. Looked just a different level at times compared to the Brentford midfielders. Any success Arsenal will have this season will rely greatly on Partey's fitness.
Granit Xhaka 9/10
Another just superb performance from Granit who was skipper today. His renaissance in an Arsenal shirt has been incredible. Slowly becoming one of our best players. Wonderful ball to find Jesus for the second goal.
Thought he was bit quiet in the first half but came into his own in the second half. An incredible long shot for his goal. Really excited to see how he develops this season.
Gabriel Martinelli 7/10
Should of scored after one minute but scuffed his shot. Played well looked very sharp as always.
Gabriel Jesus 10/10 MOTM
Once again just outstanding, took his goal superbly. Caused Brentford havoc throughout.
Ethan Nwaneri
Imagine being 15 and making your Premier League debut, well for Ethan Nwaneri a dream became a reality. He wasn't even born when the Emirates Stadium was open! An incredible achievement as he becomes the youngest player to ever play in the history of the Premier League.
Ivan Toney
I think we can all agree of Ivan Toney is a quality player but we can also agree there will no sarcastic tweets from him today. After Arsenal were humiliated back in August 2021 by Brentford, the English forward tweeted "Nice kick about with the boys" which cleared angered Mikel Arteta who used the tweet to fire up his players in the reverse fixture last season which Arsenal won 2-1. This was all shown in the Amazon Prime but by the looks of things Arteta has had the final laugh with the win today, that is of course until the 11th of February when Arsenal welcome the bee's to Emirates.
